The Holy Spirit, on the Move @ Arizona State

Dr. Gary Kinnaman is speaking live at HOPE now about the presence of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  It's the 3rd dimension of our Easter 4-D series in which we've been unfolding the full perspective of God's plan to rescue mankind.

We love Dr. Kinnaman's commitment to invest in the lives of ASU students by speaking here.  Lots of students came forward this morning to receive prayer, and more are here tonight for the same!

Come experience Easter 4-D next week as we bring the series home.  Check out the pic from this morning's service:

Campus Changers

35 HOPE students and staff are meeting in Hassayampa Dorm right now telling stories of team evangelism and strategizing how to reach their dorm region.  Two of the students just told the story of a guy they met today who said to them, "in a nutshell guys, what do I have to do to not burn in Hell?" That student then prayed with our team to surrender to Jesus right there!

It's happening on campus, God is moving!

What is a Witness?

Definition of WITNESS: Someone who has experienced a violent death.

The 2Q Impact

Our Campus Team is currently training for our spring break Invade trip.  2-man teams are on campus this week interviewing students by practicing with the "2 Question Test"...a small booklet we've used for years to break the ice with ASU students with the purpose of exploring what students really believe and determining a student's receptivity to the Gospel...by answering 2 simple questions:

1. Do you believe you'll go to heaven when you die?
2.  Why do you believe this?

This evening, one of our male student leaders lead a fellow ASU student through the 2Q, shared his own story of faith, and prayed with the student to surrender his life to Jesus!

Please pray for our Invade San Diego 2012 team as we train for the big trip.

Fashion and Faith Walk the Runway

Sun Devils Wear Prada was birthed 2 years ago after Wendy Smith discovered fashion expert Shari Braendel online.  Our staff loved the idea of how fashion could meet faith and 'be friends'.  Just like faith isn't a once a week event, neither does fashion need to only make an appearance on special occasions.

Even the men in our church rallied to support us and the event!  They joined us on campus in suits and ties as we sold tickets.

When doors opened at 7pm last night, girls flooded in and visited the red carpet for photos then grabbed cupcakes. The girls mixed and mingled as they visited all the table exhibits: color analysis, Toni &
Guy Salon, Dillard's, Chi Alpha and Sun Devil ShopOFF.

During the evening Shari taught us how to dress for our body types and look our best.  She also challenged us with this: "If you dress sexy you will get sex.  But if you dress lovely, you'll get love."

And the fun doesn't end there.  More than 100 girls are coming to San Tan Village to go shopping with SDWP during the Sun Devil ShopOFF.  Since we just learned how to dress-- we need to update our closets.  And tons of stores are giving us 10-50% off so we can afford this remodel!

What a Day

If you were at HOPE today, you experienced a day of change.  ASU students were treated to guest speaker Andy Poland's story of leaving Mormonism to pursue an authentic relationship with Jesus...not based on works & law, but on God's free gift of grace through Jesus work on the cross.

So many students were impacted by the message that our staff needed to start 13 new campus Bible discussions for the coming week, and 3 students gave their lives to Jesus during church!  What a day at HOPE!

Former Mormon

Guest speaker Andy Poland brings his journey of faith to HOPE today! From Mormonism to Christianity, we're excited to present The Core series today at HOPE.  11am & 5pm services at Neeb Hall, Arizona State University.

The Roommates

Last night one of our male campus staff lead a Bible discussion in the Barrett Honors College.  The guys normally in the discussion brought their roommates who admitted they needed to move closer to surrendering their lives to Jesus.

Whoa!

Tonight at Fight Night, HOPE students made lists totaling 1,000 friends then took to the mic to pray for them....ALL!  The climate at ASU is changing as students become fishers of men.  Everyone committed to keeping their list of friends in a place they'll see every day this week.

Fight Tonight!

Pray for ASU, fight for your friends.  Fight Night round 3 starts at 830pm, LSA 191 ASU Tempe Campus!

Rabbi Jack!

We are privileged to have Jack Zimmerman come to speak at HOPE today (he's speaking right now at the 5pm service, hurry over to catch him!).  He tells his journey of faith from traditional Judaism to a radical relationship with Jesus.  Jack said this morning, "I didn't want to come to grips with what His was telling me..."

Check out our Facebook page for today's media, including Gareth's Real Sun Devil Story hitting our wall this evening.

One a Day

Tonight at Fight night we celebrate the glory of God coming at ASU. 10 ASU students have surrendered their lives to Jesus in the last 10 days!  We heard from one of them a few minutes ago--a roommate of one of our HOPE students.

3 Short Stories from this Week

One of our staff girls went to campus wanting to meet new students, so she brought cookies to several girls in one of the dorms and ended up meeting 8 new girls that are also interested in coming to our fashion & faith event on February 1st, Sun Devils Wear Prada!  See sundevilswearprada.org for more info.

One of our staff guys and a HOPE student were in a dorm this week and looked out over the SRC Field to watch a soccer game.  They started talking about the game and commenting on the goalie, and then left to head to another part of campus.  A few minutes later the soccer goalie comes up behind the guys!  The HOPE student had a great conversation with the goalie, and it ends up that he wants to come to church with the guys this week!

Some of our guys had a conversation about the Bible this week with a student who really just wanted to argue his own world view.  Our staff guy showed the student some Bible verses; long story short, that student got excited about what he read and wants to meet again to find out more of what the Bible says!

Church, to The Core

Pastor Brian continues his sermon series THE CORE: WHAT'S AT THE CENTER?  Church services are at ASU Neeb Hall, 11am & 5pm.

Friday, January 13, 2012

Inside the numbers

The HOPE Campus Team was out in force this week: we engaged 1186 students with conversations about Jesus & the Bible.  475 of those students are interested in hearing more about our church or dorm Bible Discussions.  We currently have 70 Bible discussions set.  And 5 students surrendered to Jesus with someone on our team!  Get connected, the momentum is building at ASU!

Fight Night Crazies

Fight Night returned last night with a bang!  Over a hundred rowdy HOPE Sun Devils filled LSA 191 auditorium to worship Jesus, and pray for friends.  The spiritual climate changes at ASU when students gather to pray like this.  Come fight with us; round 2 is next Thursday at 830pm!

Salvation week!

One of our female staff caught up with a student yesterday who came to Bible discussions last semester.  The student asked, "So if I wanted to repent, how would I do that?" She prayed with our staff member right there to repent and put her full trust in Jesus!

This is the 5th ASU student to surrender to Jesus this week!

The High School Friend

One of our male student leaders just ran into a high school friend of his on campus who came up to him and asked if he could come to church at HOPE with him this weekend!  The friend has been swept up in the party culture of ASU, and heavily involved in raves in high school.

Death Experience Provokes Interest

Last night one of our female staff and a friend visited a girl at The Vue.  The student told them about how the death of her friend, who was hit by a car recently, has provoked her to wonder what God is all about.  The friend who died had actually written to his friends recently that he hoped they would find Jesus.  The student is really interested now in what God is about and what His plan might be for her!

It's powerful to know that in the middle of the dorm with arguably the biggest party reputation on campus, that Jesus is on the move!

North Campus Salvation!

10 minutes ago, some of our North Campus team prayed with a student to surrender her life to Jesus!  She was talking with some girls from HOPE who asked her, "Do you believe you'll go to heaven when you die?" The student responded, "What do I have to do to repent?  Let's just do it!"

South Campus Salvation!

A student from Sonora Dorm was met by a team of HOPE students doing a survey (interviewing students about what they believe) this afternoon.  He was so convicted and excited by the Truth he was hearing that he was ready to surrender to Jesus right there in front of his dorm!

Blog Launch!

Here we go, thanks Devin P. for your digital skills.  We're launching the Real Sun Devil Stories blog from Barrett Dorm on the ASU Tempe Campus tonight!
